Q. Hi, can you tell me about the library's 3-D printer and Foundry?

Hi there,

Thank you for your interest in 3-D printing at the library! Our 3-D printer is available in our teen tech lab--The Foundry--to teens entering grades 6 through 12.

We have a Makerbot 3-D printer that prints .obj and .stl formats.

The print time varies depending on the size of the print. It can range from 2 hours to 12 hours in length.

We do carry 3-D design software on our iMacs: Blender, Sketch-up and Sculptrus. The library also carries books that will help you to learn how to design.

The Foundry is currently an open lab, but I can also make an appointment for you if you would like. 3-D printing is free for now, but eventually we will charge $1.00 + .05 cents per gram for prints. I would help you with the print, and if the print runs overnight, I can save it for you to pick up at a later time.

The Foundry is open the same hours as the Teen Space at the Boulder Main Library (http://boulderlibrary.org/foundry/). I'm usually there M-F during the after school time!
