For early return of items (you don't necessarily want to delete them until after you have returned them), it depends on whether you are downloading the titles and whether you are using audiobooks or ebooks. Please visit this page link for detailed instructions on how to return EPUB books early
It looks like perhaps you were able to retrieve the holds ready for you, but please let me know if that is not the case. If you lost a hold we can often move you to the front of the queue. You may call reference at 303-441-3194.
As for another software, I'm afraid we are tied to using the applications that Overdrive provides to us.
