Thanks for contacting us. We’re excited that you want to use our ebooks on your Kindle device.

The following steps will get you started in checking out and downloading ebooks to your Kindle:

1. Go to this link for the Front Range Downloadable Library: .

2. Browse or search the Overdrive catalog for a book you’d like to read. (While it is possible to access   the Overdrive catalog directly from your Kindle, the checkout process is best done on a computer.)

You’ll get a list of titles for your browse or search. Most of the information you need is immediately viewable from this page, but you can click on the title links to get additional information about any one ebook.

The listing for each ebook will give you the option of “place hold” or “add to cart”. Items that have the “place hold” option next to them are currently checked out to other patrons. If you select the “place hold” option, you will be added to a holds queue and will be notified by email when the item becomes available for checkout. Items have the “add to cart” option next to them are available for immediate checkout and download.

Whether you hold or add an ebook to your cart, make sure to click on the link next to the Kindle Book version of the book you want. (Some items may not have a Kindle Book option. Most of these will be audiobooks, which are not playable on a Kindle device.) You can have up to four Overdrive items checked out at any one time.

3. Checking out your library ebooks.

When you’ve finished browsing the Overdrive catalog, click on the link “Proceed to Checkout”. The link is available each time you add an item to your cart. You can also click on “View my Order Cart” on the blue strip at the top of the page. (Note that items in your Order Cart are not yet checked out to you and will only remain there for a short time.)

If you’re not yet logged into Overdrive, you’ll be prompted to login using your Boulder Library card.

On the Check Out page, you’ll be given a list of items that you’ve place in your Order Cart. You can change the checkout period of each item from 7 days to 14 days. Click on the Confirm Checkout button.

4. Getting your ebooks.

Once you confirm your checkout, you’ll be taken to a download page. Each checked out item will be listed with a “Get for Kindle” button. Click on the button. You’ll be taken to the website page for that Overdrive ebook. Click on the “Get Library Book” button. You will need to login to your account.

Most Overdrive books for the Kindle will be automatically sent to your Kindle from The automatic download works through your Kindle’s Wi-Fi connection, so be sure that the Wi-Fi is turned on and connected to an available network.

Note:  Some Kindles have both Wi-Fi and 3G connection capabilities. Automatic downloads will only work through the Wi-Fi connection.

When the Amazon checkout process is complete, Amazon will send the ebook to your Kindle as soon as your Kindle has an active WiFi connection.

Another option is to use the Download button at the bottom of the page. This will download the ebook to your computer. You can then connect your Kindle to the computer using the USB cable that came with your Kindle. Copy the downloaded ebook from your computer into your Kindle’s Documents folder. Note:  Some Overdrive Kindle ebooks cannot be sent directly to your Kindle and will need to be transferred using the Download option.  The Checkout page will note these books.

4. Returning your ebook:

Your ebook automatically returns itself. (No overdue fines!)

You can return your ebook early by logging into your Amazon account. Under Account Options, select “Manage Your Kindle”. Your Overdrive checkouts will appear in “Your Kindle Library”. “Return This Book” is available under the dropdown list of actions for each item.

Overdrive books are not renewable.
