Hi. Can I see New York Times articles online through the library website or research links? Thanks
Thanks for asking about the New York Times. We do have NYT in several of our databases, with full text articles from 1985 to the present. Bear in mind, these are not presented in a "digital replica" of the print layout, but rather they provide the articles as separate pdf formats, without advertisements, photographs, classifieds or AP Wire articles--only staff written articles fall under the permissions to reproduce by our database vendors.
Here is the direct lnk to the New York Times in the database Academic One File.
1. You will be prompted to enter your library card and name prior to accessing the page.
2. The page will include the ability to select the issue you want to search/read. Each article is a separate pdf file, that you can view online or download. You can't download the entire issue. You can however search WITHIN the single issue date you have selected OR within the entire New York Times publication across all issues.
3. It may be that you find yourself somehow dropping the limiter and you end up searching the entire database which includes all publications. If that happens, simply go to the advanced search again and type in New York Times and choose "Publication Title" from the drop down under keyword, this will get you back on track for the publication page.
To find other publications in our databases (and we have thousands!), you can use the "Find a Magazine/Newspaper" search tool on the left side of our research home page. This will list which database has the publication, and the date range it has it for full text articles (rather than just abstracts or citations). You can then click through to the database page to read articles. We also have the Historical NYTimes back to 1851 -2014 as a separate subscription, and that is a full digital replica of the paper.
Let me know if this is clear as mud or if you have other questions about using our databases. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
